Sheep Genetics
Developed by AWI and Meat and Livestock Australia to provide woolgrowers with a national genetic database, Sheep Genetics can be easily used to calculate the performance breeding values of ewes and rams.
Sheep Genetics is a national genetic information and evaluation service for the meat and wool sectors of the sheep industry.
Sheep Genetics's core business is the provision and maintenance of a national database for the calculation of performance breeding values.
These breeding values are released as a single national language, known as Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs).
ASBVs are used by ram breeders and commercial producers to compare the genetic potential of rams and ewes for a range of industry relevant traits, within and between flocks, independent of location. It also allows comparison of genetic merit of flocks across environments through the use of link sires.
