Training - Shearers and Wool handlers
AWI is working on industry’s behalf to fund delivery of training to improver/professional shearers and wool handlers as well as improve the training delivery of all funded training to novice and learners.
In this way AWI seeks to improve the attraction and retention of new entrants and increase the productive capacity of existing shearers and wool handlers.
Overview
The mission of the AWI shearer and wool handler training program is:
- To assist the wool harvesting industry ensure the availability of competent workers through the delivery of industry relevant training programs and credible skill assessment.
- To attract and retain new entrants.
- To build the capacity of existing workers.
- To increase the profitability of woolgrowers.
- To maximise government funding and support for shearer / wool handler training.
AWI has committed $1.4 million for the period 2007-08 to implement a national shearer and wool handler training program.
