Application of new knowledge is fundamental to the continued success and longevity of the Australian wool industry. From the shearing shed to the university campus, the AWI training and communication network spreads best practices as they are developed.

  • AWI grower networks

    AWI’s grower networks are fundamental to the spread of new ideas, continuing education and the adoption of best practice. Community-based education groups are present in each state and open to local woolgrowers.

  • AWI scholarships and awards

    AWI fosters grassroots research and development by offering a series of tertiary scholarships and awards that support the creation of new knowledge and practises relevant to the wool industry.

  • Training - Shearers and Wool handlers

    AWI is working on industry’s behalf to fund delivery of training to improver/professional shearers and wool handlers as well as improve the training delivery of all funded training to novice and learners.

    In this way AWI seeks to improve the attraction and retention of new entrants and increase the productive capacity of existing shearers and wool handlers.

    A great deal of information for students is provided to improve their understanding of our complex industry. Topics covered include: wool fibre characteristics, wool production and processing, marketing Australian wool and careers in wool.

Overview

Australian Wool Innovation is dedicated to its role as a catalyst for research and development that strengthens the Australian wool industry. AWI is proactively tackling industry issues such as mulesing and sponsoring programs whch will increase the long term profitability of the industry.

However, equally vital is the means by which we spread the findings of our research amongst Australian woolgrowers.

Education facilities – centered on shearers, the encouragement of research by students and the spread of knowledge through AWI grower groups – keep information flowing throughout the community.
