Under existing Australian government legislation, tariff rates on all Textile Clothing and Footwear (TCF) products imported into Australia will be reduced on 1 January 2005. All imported wool type textiles and apparel tariff rates, which are not currently at 5%, will decline by between 5 and 7.5% on their current rates.

A decision by the US Court of International Trade has imposed a preliminary injunction baring the government from implementing new 'threat-based' restrictions on imports of textiles and apparel goods from China which were proposed in reaction to the removal of quotas at the beginning of this year.
