India's investment in textile sector is expected to double to $6.448bn this year, according to the government's Textile Commissioner JN Singh, has said. Investment in the April-May period alone also doubled to $860m.

Japanese retail sales rose just 0.4% to ¥10.58trn ($91.4bn) in June. While it was a second monthly increase, the government said Friday (July 28) that it was spurred by higher demand for cigarettes and paper before price hikes this month. Higher oil prices also sent sales up.
China and India are leading a boom in the shopping centre industry, fuelled by strong economic growth, rising disposal incomes and easier financing through real estate investment funds (REITS), Agence France Presse reported Wednesday (July 12).

Chinese demand for raw wool exhibited positive signs in April. Buyers waiting for weeks for prices to turn in their favour were forced back to the market by the very low level of stocks in textile mills, assisting import demand for wool.
A business survey of the top 600 companies in South Korea revealed that the majority believe the economy is deteriorating. Some export industries surveyed scored particularly low, including textiles, clothing/footwear, plastic/rubber and automobiles.

According to the Gfk Group, consumer confidence in Germany remains on the rise, reaching its highest level in May since December 2001, and continuing on a positive note in June, boosted by falling unemployment.
