Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) in collaboration with Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (QDPI&F) recently commissioned the The Woolmark Company (TWC) to undertake market research in Western Europe, Japan and the USA to determine the potential customer requirements and demand for ‘ethical Merino wool’.

I wish to advise Australian woolgrowers, staff and everyone involved with Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) that I will be leaving the company at the end of this year.
The Board of Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) has unanimously agreed to recommend woolgrowers vote to keep the current 2 per cent levy for investment in research, development, innovation and product marketing.
Dr Len Stephens & the Board of Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) have reached an agreement concerning new managerial arrangements which will be effective later this year. Where as AWI started as a research and development company, it is well into the business of marketing its post farm innovations. With that in mind, AWI has embarked on an executive search for a Chief Executive Officer with the skills to strengthen the international marketing effort.

A lack of late winter and early Spring rain across eastern Australia, combined with the prospect of below average rainfall through to the end of December, has resulted in a significant downward revision to Australian wool production in 2006/07.
