Applying for funding from AWI

The driving force behind delivering new techniques and products to the farm and the world’s wool markets is through targeted research. To ensure an ongoing supply of new technology and information to assist Australian woolgrowers, annual funding is available from AWI to researchers.

  • How to apply for funding

    Funding for research is open to all those who can justify the relevance of their study to AWI and that fulfill certain designated criteria.

  • On-Farm / Wool Production Proposals

    On-farm projects that focus on: sustainable production, sheep productivity and animal health and welfare are most likely to be of interest to AWI.

  • Product Development Proposals

    In an off-farm context, areas of interest to AWI include wool science and non-apparel products. However, greatest current importance is in the development of knitwear and woven fabrics that satisfy a number of challenges.

Overview

AWI often alters the areas for which research is most needed depending on market demand and the most pressing on-farm issues.

For funding applications, ensure that your research field is within AWI’s area of interest and that it is submitted in the correct manner.

Funding is more likely to be granted if research:

  • Devises on- and off-farm activities that are relevant to AWI and woolgrower interests
  • Identifies means to increase the wealth of Australian wool producers
  • Generates ideas that can provide a commercial return to the company
